Out of My Fathers' House

Senior Capstone Project

Alfred University 2018

I have always been drawn to strong women, in both theatre and life. Many of the roles I've played or strive for are that of leading ladies who find their voices in the fight for freedom. I chose to adapt this play so as to challenge myself with something I've never done before (a one-woman performance), with characters I admired who had stories I needed to tell. The fight for equal rights for all humans is constantly an important topic that needs to be addressed and discussed. These women are among many who have created a lasting impact in this fight, and it is my hope to carry on the work they've done and continue to work for equality for all people.

For my senior project, I decided to take the play Out of Our Fathers' House and turn it into a one-woman performance where I challenged myself to act as three women from the play, as well as created the set, costume, props, and sound design.
