Out of My Fathers' House

In my production, there were three quick changes for each character that happen onstage. The stage manager and I worked through multiple ways of achieving this in a way that looked smooth and didn't distract from the show. We settled on the idea of taking off each character's clothing and laying it on the chair or cube in her space, rather than placing it back in the basket. This creates an impression of the woman after her monologue is finished, and allows her story to remain on stage throughout the rest of the show. The character of the Actress is meant to be a modernised embodiment of all women, with the poise and articulation of the characters she becomes. Her story melds into that of Maria, Elizabeth and Anna, and she leaves us all with questions about life and individuality.

The character of the Actress is meant to be a modernised embodiment of all women, with "base" white blouse, flats and leggings.
